Meet Susan
Susan has been a lawyer since 1992. She joined Whitney in her practice at a previous law firm nearly seven years ago, and they have worked together ever since. They definitely make a great team and are excited about their new iteration as Derber Law. Susan is also enjoying working closely with Gabrielle in the Wills and Estates part of the practice.
Susan briefly tried retirement but found that it did not suit her. She still enjoys her work and has begun balancing it with travelling to new places for a fresh perspective. She intends to keep working and travelling well into the future. She also loves her role as “auntie” to Whitney’s beautiful dog, Bader. He is an integral part of the practice!
Meet Whitney and Bader
Whitney graduated from the Washington College of Law at American University in 2008 and was first called to the Bar in California in 2009. After a move from DC to Vancouver, she was then called to the Bar in British Columbia in 2011, and has been happy to call Canada home for the last 16 years. She has been working in civil litigation since starting her articles in 2010 with a mid-sized Richmond firm.
Whitney is an avid traveller and political news junkie, and is learning to balance her life with rest. Whitney has worked with an international non-profit in economic development for two decades and as a member of their Board for nearly 15 years.
Bader is an American Staffordshire Terrier / Husky / German Shepherd cross who has been stealing the hearts of family, friends, and random people on the seawall since July 2020. He is a classic Husky with a lot of opinions, side eye, and cuddles on his terms. He is usually at the office, and likes to lend a paw (literally) when someone is having a hard day.
Meet Gabrielle
For over 40 years, Gabrielle has worked in BC law offices specializing in the field of Wills and Estates for over 40 years and now contracts with Derber Law. She possesses an inquisitive, analytical mind, enjoys problem solving and is able to make the explanation of a complex situation clear and easy to understand. She is also the author of how-to-do-it manuals such as the Guide to Wills & Estates and Guide to Corporate Records. She understands that you have to do things right, the first time.
Aside from being a dynamic lecturer, Gabrielle has taught the subject of Wills and Estates and Corporate Procedure at BC educational institutions for over 20 years.
She enjoys reading, travelling, long walks, swimming, opera and singing in choirs.
